Philadelphia, October 22, 2024 – Today, Senator Jimmy Dillon (D, Philadelphia) announced $3,000,107 in Local Share Account (LSA) funding for five essential projects across Northeast Philadelphia. These projects, supported by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), aim to support a healthy environment, job training, arts education, historic preservation, and community services. The funding will benefit the Northeast Philadelphia Airport, Caring for Friends, JEVS Human Services, Settlement Music School, and Glen Foerd Conservation Corporation.
“These projects represent meaningful investments in our community,” said Dillon. “From food distribution at Caring for Friends to safety improvements at Orleans Tech and Northeast Airport, each project plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life in our neighborhoods.”
Senator Dillon emphasized that these projects represent a strong, dynamic district that values both its history and its future. “By supporting Settlement Music School and Glen Foerd, we’re preserving what makes Northeast Philly special and ensuring future generations can embrace art, music, and creativity.”
The funded projects are:
- Philadelphia Northeast Airport Administration Building Upgrade, $1,000,000 – LSA funds will contribute to the modernization of the administration building, including the installation of geothermal heating and cooling systems, aligning with the city’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
- JEVS Human Services Security and IT Upgrades, $52,132 – This project will enhance security and connectivity at Orleans Technical College through the installation of electronic scan card systems, security cameras, and wireless access points.
- Settlement Music School Kardon-Northeast Branch Renovations, $398,513 – This initiative will address stormwater management, roof repairs, and create new outdoor spaces for learning and performances.
- Caring for Friends Vehicle Purchase, $916,037 – Funds will be used to purchase refrigerated trucks and vans to ensure food distribution to pantries and homes throughout the region.
- Glen Foerd Electrical Service Upgrade, $633,425 – This project will replace outdated, hazardous electrical equipment, ensuring the historic estate can continue to serve the community safely.
Senator Dillon is always proud to work with his colleagues in the State House of Representatives on initiatives that contribute to the well-being of Northeast Philadelphia. He partnered with Representative Ed Neilson on three projects and with State Representatives Pat Gallagher and Martina White on separate efforts, underscoring the value of collaboration for Northeast Philadelphia.
“This funding will allow for critical upgrades to vital organizations that uplift and empower our community,” Neilson said. “The proposed updates include new security measures and initiatives that further Pennsylvania’s commitment to a more clean and green future for generations to come and I’m always ready to help support the organizations that make Northeast Philadelphia a great place to live, work and grow.”
“I was proud to support this grant which will help Caring for Friends provide more meals to the most in need members of our community,” said White. “These new refrigerated vehicles will help keep their food fresh longer allowing them to expand their reach throughout the Philadelphia area.”
“I’m pleased to see Glen Foerd being awarded these funds,” Gallagher said. “This project will provide necessary safety renovations and upgrades for one of our district’s most community-involved organizations.”
“These projects reflect our commitment to the people we represent,” Dillon concluded. “While we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, we know there’s more work ahead. We’ll keep pushing for the financial resources that Northeast Philadelphia deserves.”
