Philadelphia, November 1, 2024 – Today, Senator Jimmy Dillon and Representative Pat Gallagher announced an additional $500,000 in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) funding to advance the transformation of Russo Park Playground in Northeast Philadelphia. This latest investment builds upon the $1 million previously secured from the Local Share Account (LSA) in March 2023, which kickstarted the revitalization efforts. The combined funding reinforces a vision of Russo Park as a vibrant, accessible community hub for residents of all ages.
Senator Dillon, a former college basketball player and a coach in his community, emphasized the lasting impact this project will have:
“A playground like this is where families, young athletes, and neighbors can come together to make memories and build connections. As a coach and father, I know how much a space like this means to kids. It’s where confidence, teamwork, and lifelong friendships begin. We’re creating a place where Northeast Philly can play, feel safe, and take pride in their neighborhood. This project lifts the whole community.”
“Today, we celebrate a significant step forward for our community with the awarding of a $500,000 state grant to the Philadelphia Parks Department,” said Rep. Gallagher. “This funding will enhance Russo Park, creating a vibrant space for families to gather, children to play, and nature to thrive. Together, we are investing in our green spaces, ensuring they serve as vital resources for all residents.”
RACP funding, authorized under Pennsylvania’s Capital Budget Itemization Act, is allocated to projects with significant regional impact, supporting economic activity and community revitalization across the Commonwealth.
